Bozeman Weather
Big Sky is located in the southwest corner of Montana surrounded by the magnificent Gallatin Range of the Northern Rockies. The elevation at the top of Lone Peak is 11,150 feet... the Mountain Village sits at 7,500 feet... the Meadow Village elevation is approximately 6,200 feet... and along the Canyon elevation is in the vicinity of 5,900 feet.
Bozeman's climate reflects its mountain valley location. May to July is the rainiest part of the warm season. Average annual precipitation is 15 inches, varying from 10 to more than 100 inches.
Summers are pleasant, characterized by warm days, cool nights, and an abundance of sunshine. Hot weather and humid conditions are infrequent. Bozeman is located in one of the few regions in the country where the average summer climate is comfortable due to the moderate combined heat and humidity. Most summers have seven or fewer days with temperatures exceeding 90 degrees. The average high temperatures for summer are in the 70s and 80s and the average lows are in the mid 40s and low 50s.
Early in the Autumn season, high daily temperatures average 70 degrees. Indian summer can linger until the middle of October. During the months of October and November the temperatures generally reach highs in the 40s and 50s and lows in the 20s or 30s.
In general, visitors to Bozeman will be wise to bring along a variety of clothes in order to stay abreast of the quickly changing weather. Bozeman is seldom consistently hot or cold. Every season holds surprises. Montanans dress in layers so that they can peel clothes off or add them on as required.
